The Adamawa State Governor, the Right Honourable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri, has pledged his full support for the institution's upcoming Golden Jubilee and combined 25th Convocation ceremony.
Governor Fintiri hosted a delegation from the Golden Jubilee and 25th Combined Convocation Committee on Tuesday at his office in Government House, Yola. During the meeting, he described the University of Maiduguri as an institution that has produced notable men and women who have contributed significantly to the nation's development. He highlighted that the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, is a graduate of the institution, as are the current governors of Adamawa, Borno and Bauchi states.
The Governor assured the committee of his commitment to working with them to ensure a successful Golden Jubilee and Combined 25th Convocation ceremony.
He highlighted developments that his government has brought to Adamawa State, to include modern infrastructure that has changed the face of the state and attracted investors, leading to an increase in economic activities.
Earlier, Professor Yakubu Mukhtar, Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, spoke on behalf of the University of Maiduguri's Golden Jubilee and Combined 25th Convocation ceremonies delegation. He offered condolences to the government and people of Adamawa State regarding the recent flooding that devastated parts of Yola South, resulting in loss of lives and properties.
Professor Mukhtar also congratulated Governor Fintiri on the Honorary Doctorate Degree awarded to him by the University of Port Harcourt, describing it as "another remarkable achievement for the Governor, not only in the North East but beyond."
As a stakeholder in the Department of History and Strategic Studies at the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mukhtar thanked Governor Fintiri for his support when the department hosted an International Conference with the theme 'Insecurity, Reconstruction, Resettlement, and Rehabilitation in the Lake Chad Basin,' as well as for the upgrade of their seminar and conference room.
Professor Mukhtar explained that the primary purpose of their visit was to seek support for the University of Maiduguri's Golden Jubilee and the Combined 25th Convocation. He stated that the university will mark its 50th anniversary on 1st October 2025, following its establishment in 1975, with celebrations for the Golden Jubilee and the 25th Combined Convocation scheduled for early November 2025.
The leader of the delegation acknowledged the university's esteemed alumni, who now serve as governors: His Excellency Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi, His Excellency Babagana Zulum of Borno, and His Excellency Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa.
