Adamawa State Commissioner for the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development, Hon. Hammanjuba Gatugel, has stressed the importance of youth in driving Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills to create jobs and earn income.
He made this known in Yola on Wednesday while celebrating the 2025 World Youth Skills Day, which had the theme: "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Skills." The event focused on the potential of young people to use digital tools for self-employment and innovation.
According to Hon. Gatugel, the global celebration aims to encourage young people and women to acquire practical skills that lead to personal growth and success. He emphasised the need to raise awareness among youths about the importance of embracing technology and vocational skills for a better future.
He also highlighted the achievements of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration in supporting youth development. He recalled that recently, the Ministry trained 50 youths across the 21 Local Government Areas in AI and digital skills such as digital marketing, graphic design, web development, and digital communication.
Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT and E-economy, Dr. Hammajam Adamu, advised the youth to take full advantage of technology and not rely on government jobs alone. “Seize opportunities in technology and focus on building skills for business and innovation,” he said.
Salisbury Babayi, Manager of the Technology Incubation Centre, also encouraged the youth to embrace mentorship and leverage technology. He noted that white-collar jobs are becoming scarce, and skills are key to future success.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Kwaji Duguri, welcomed participants and stressed the importance of a modern education system that combines academic learning with vocational and digital skills.
He noted that the 2025 celebration promotes an environment that supports entrepreneurship and innovation.
Mallam Ibrahim Usman, Director of Entrepreneurship, thanked the state government for providing opportunities for young people to acquire AI and other relevant skills.
The event also featured exhibitions by local entrepreneurs, which were inspected by the Honourable Commissioner and other dignitaries.
There were goodwill messages from representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, SMEDAN, NASSI, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, among others.
