A police inspector, Aminu Muhammed, has been nabbed by his own colleagues in Kogi State, Nigeria, on suspicion of robbery.
Sources claim Muhammed, stationed at the Lokoja 'C' Division, targeted homes near his work. Police spokesperson William Ayah confirmed the arrest and detention of the inspector, adding that a thorough investigation is underway.
The inspector's downfall came after a notorious burglary gang specializing in stealing cars and household items was caught. A stolen car was found at a mechanic's workshop in Ochadamu, where the mechanic was repainting it.
The car, recognized by locals, had been reported stolen from a residence on June 14th, 2024. The inspector presented a fake car dealer's receipt, backdated to 2020, as proof of purchase. Police apprehended him before the car's color change was complete.
Further investigation revealed that the actual robbers, already apprehended for another crime, confessed to the theft. They claimed they were hired by the inspector specifically to steal the car.
