A two-storey residential apartment building collapsed in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city, on Saturday morning. Four people have been rescued from the rubble, but others are still believed to be trapped.
This tragedy comes less than 24 hours after the Saint Academy building collapse in Jos, which tragically claimed the lives of dozens of students.
Just two weeks ago, another building collapsed at Unity House, Area 11, Garki, in Abuja.
The latest incident occurred at a building located beside Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dansuki Road, Phase 2, Site 2, Kubwa, within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Channels TV report, passers-by alerted the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) about the incident. A distress call also came in through the emergency toll-free number 112 at approximately 6:45 am.
However, Corporal News can report that, two of the rescued victims are currently receiving treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital.
Search efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue anyone who may be trapped in the collapsed building.
The collapsed structure, which previously served as a hotel before being converted into residential apartments, contained 45 self-contained rooms.
At the scene, the Acting Director-General of FEMD, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, assured the public that search and rescue operations will continue until everyone is accounted for, even if there's a possibility of no one being left trapped.
Mrs. Wenegieme urged developers to strictly adhere to building codes and avoid using substandard materials.
